The Research:
Maladaptive coping mechanisms in dealing with stress lead to impulsive behaviours such as smartphone usage to achieve instant gratification—which is prominent in younger adults—leading to the development of smartphone addiction.

Problem Statement:
We need a decorative object that removes the impulsive aspect of phone usage and sets a focused relaxation session for young adults who struggle with procrastination and stress by providing encouraging features (such as cuteness, goofiness, music, or scent) for young adults. And provide a physical barrier between the user and the phone through annoying alerts.

The Design:
The MediTurt is a meditation device designed to help young adults with phone addiction. This product creates productivity sessions through relaxing features such as scent, sound, and light. By creating a product that reduces stress, and impulsive behaviour, and provides an additional physical barrier to their phone access, individuals are less inclined to get distracted during their meditation or study sessions. The main setting this would be used in would be in a personal study space such as your bedroom or home.

Side Products:
This product pairs with a custom phone case, allowing MediTurt to detect whenever the phone is missing in its meditation session.

Why a turtle?
When choosing a cute animal to base the design around, common household pets—such as cats and dogs—were the first choices. Ultimately, the box turtle was the final choice, as its natural design is highly compatible with creating methods of destressing, such as colour, ergonomic shape, and
3D forms. One appealing feature of this product is its cuteness and goofiness. For example, this product uses the smoke from the incense candle within the MediTurt (or other smoke-emitting sources) and directs it through the nose (or butt).
